Fresh Seafood

Mariana Islands Fishing and Seafood Festival

Hafa Adai, Tirow & Welcome,

The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) is located in the Northwest Pacific Ocean is home to 57,000 people living on 186 sq. miles of land area and enjoying an oceanic resource of 482,000 sq. miles. Our ocean waters are home to the Marianas Trench, the deepest part of the world's oceans. The Marianas Trench is about 1,580 miles long with an average width of only 43 miles. It reaches a maximum-known depth of 6.831 miles (36,070 ft.) and 36,201 ft. at the Challenger Deep.

Seafood in the CNMI is cultivated in our immense, pristine & temperate ocean waters and the incomparable freshness, comes from the secreted nutrients found only in the depths of the Marianas Trench. Marianas seafood is utterly delicious and filled with protein, vitamins and vigorous nutrients found only in the deepest ocean waters. Our fresh fish is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, which can lower blood pressure and benefit brain and heart functions. The CNMI waters offer the variety of near-shore and deep-ocean species which offers a wealth of different flavors, consistencies and preparation methods. Choosing the right fish for a meal is like selecting fine wine – each has its own taste, aroma and texture. People need to incorporate fish into their meals and not miss out on tasty, wholesome food.

The Mariana Islands Fishing and Seafood Festival celebrate the bounty of the sea and the cultural heritage of those who harvest that bounty. Our forefathers considered the sea as life. It provides food, recreation, transportation and commerce. Our local fishermen utilize sustainable fishing practices and shy away from destructive industrial fish capture practices. The Marianas Trench Fishing and Seafood Festival supports eco-friendly fish harvesting options and choices that never sacrifice taste and freshness.

There is a definite need to rethink our food purchases and rely on locally grown fish, garden and fruit products. Locally grown have a low carbon footprint and strengthens the local economy by purchasing from local farmers and fishermen. When consumers buy directly from the source, they gain access to fresh, healthful, ultra-high quality seafood and know how and where it was harvested and who harvested it. Fishermen benefit from selling directly to consumers and institutional buyers because they make more for their catch and can forge relationships with seafood-loving consumers and businesses.

We thank you in advance for your support of this THIRD year for the Mariana Islands Fishing and Seafood Festival. The ocean holds a bounty of activities for the people and businesses of the CNMI. Tourism, fine dining, sports fishing, diving, snorkeling, swimming and much, much more. The festival will showcase our available ocean resources and bring awareness to the need to protect and enhance our ocean environment and it’s resources.

Again, Welcome
